Welcome to the official 2013 GLCA Students of Color Leadership Conference website. Denison University is honored to host this annual conference in the village of Granville, Ohio. Denison prides itself on inspiring and educating our students to become autonomous thinkers, discerning moral agents and active citizens in a democratic society. It is certainly the ideal place for the GLCA members and guests to gather as we interrogate this year’s theme: Picture This: 21st Century Scholar-Activism.
The foundation of our conference theme is steeped in the activist-intellectual tradition. It is through this lens that we will come to fully understand and appreciate the reciprocity of theory and practice as we utilize our most valuable assets: our disciplinary foundations and personal backgrounds. These assets provide the tools necessary to properly FRAME and FOCUS on phenomena taking place on our respective campuses, and the courage to DEVELOP action plans that will address educational and cultural disparities.
Denison’s conference planning committee hopes that you take full advantage of this development opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues, stretch your comfort zones, and commit yourself to being a 21st Scholar-Activist.
We look forward to the work ahead!
